The PROEM network participates in the 12th International Congress of Spanish Society for the Study of Anxiety and Stress

The Network (Red PROEM) has actively participated in the 12th International Congress of Spanish Society for the Study of Anxiety and Stress (SEAS), held in Valencia from 20 to 22 September.

 

Under an extensive programme, the PROEM network led one of the event’s 50 symposiums, discussing how to promote mental and emotional health in young people. The conference was coordinated by Lourdes Espinosa, lecturer at the University of Jaén (UJA) and network member.

 

The open debate held over the course of this thematic session included the presentation of four research studies conducted by several lecturers from the Department of Psychology at UJA. First, María del Mar Díaz presented data on the use of alcohol, drugs and gambling in university students. Lourdes Espinosa then explained the results on the prevalence of anxiety in adolescents according to the DSM-5 and its link to depression and bullying. After, Luis Joaquín García presented the key points of the PROEM network. Lastly, José Antonio Muela examined the impact that perceived family expressed emotion in adolescents with and without social phobia has on emotional and bullying variables.

 

Other members and associate partners of the PROEM network also took part by presenting the work of their own research groups at this prestigious biannual international congress.

 

Antonio Cano Vindel, president of the SEAS, professor at the Complutense University of Madrid and PROEM network member, gave a closing lecture on cognitive and emotional disturbances in primary health care.
