PROCARE - MARMOLEJO INITIATIVE

The University of Jaén, in collaboration with the City Council of Marmolejo and the Provincial Council of Jaén, conducts a survey to help adolescents aged 12 to 18 years in the municipality of Marmolejo, so that young people and their families can know the emotional state of their children. In addition, PROCARE is aimed at helping the young population to face emotional difficulties (studies, health habits, communication in the family, rejection, etc.), with the objective of strengthening them emotionally and developing their resilience in the face of life’s adversities. The ultimate goal is to contribute to improving the emotional health and well-being of interested young people.

In summary, the implementation of the PROCARE initiative aims to assess and provide psychological strategies to strengthen adolescents emotionally.

The implementation of PROCARE in Marmolejo has been promoted by Manuel Lozano, Mayor of Marmolejo, together with Pilar Lara, Councillor for Governance, Tourism, Promotion and Youth of the City Council of Marmolejo, and Antonio Lara, Youth technician of the Marmolejo consistory, thanks to funding from the Provincial Council of Jaén and own funds. In addition, it has as promoter the UJA professor, Luis Joaquín García, the Research Group of Evaluation and Psychological Treatment HUM-836, the Research Structure EI_HUM18_2023 of the UJA and the network of excellence PROEMO.

STAGES OF THE INITIATIVE

STAGE 1

It is developed by possible ways:

  1. The adolescent person (between 12 and 18 years old) and his/her family will complete a questionnaire on emotional and behavioral aspects telematically in two parts: first, the parents (or at least one parent) fill out some sections, and subsequently, the child fills out other sections: Link for parents and adolescents between 12 and 15 or 16 and 18 years old who wish to do it. The information on the emotional state of the adolescent will be sent to the e-mail provided by the family.
  2. If the adolescent is 16, 17 or 18 years old and wishes to complete only the sections of the survey that apply to him/her, he/she can use the Link for adolescents between 16 and 18 years old who wish to take the survey individually. In this case, the information about the teenager’s emotional state will be sent to the e-mail address provided by the teenager.

The objective is, on the one hand, to help find out whether the adolescent is emotionally healthy, at risk or at high risk of suffering emotional difficulties, or may develop an emotional problem. All participants will receive information about their state of health and emotional well-being free of charge.

STAGE 2

Young people at risk will be offered a workshop on emotional strengthening and resilience in the face of present and future adversities. In this way, they will learn to cope with risk situations and to enhance their communication skills. They will also receive one or more additional modules adapted to help them with situations of concern such as: stress management (exams, eco-anxiety), communication difficulties with the family, rejection/discrimination, or healthy lifestyle habits (nutrition, sleep, physical exercise, use of screens/new technologies).

STAGE 3

After the end of the workshop, they can benefit from debriefing sessions to consolidate the benefits acquired and to evaluate the progress of the participating students on an emotional level.
