The PROEM network meets with the Youth Institute to join efforts to promote mental health in young people

Under the umbrella of World Mental Health Day, which took place Wednesday, 10 October, the network for the PROmotion of mental health and EMotional well-being in young people (PROEM) held a working meeting with Ruth Carrasco, Director-General of the Youth Institute (INJUVE), to establish common synergies in the interest of promoting mental health in young people.

Luis Joaquín García, the network’s PI, and Lourdes Espinosa, both lecturers with the Department of Psychology at the University of Jaén, travelled to the INJUVE headquarters in Madrid to present the report and roadmap drawn up by the PROEM network, which analyses the state of the art, needs and recommendations for improving psychological assessment and promoting mental health and emotional well-being in young people.

This meeting has served to bring their positions together towards implementing joint initiatives that contribute to ending the stigma, isolation and discrimination that young people with emotional problems face in our society. This goal coincides with some of the core values of INJUVE, a public body attached to the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, which promotes equal opportunities for all young people.

Following the meeting, Luis Joaquín García expressed his satisfaction with the progress made. “We have presented our proposals around the objectives that we share with INJUVE, as there is no future without emotionally healthy adolescents”, he highlighted.
