The Youth Institute and the PROEMA Network organize a conference on health promotion and emotional wellbeing in young people

This event, which will be attended by experts in the relationship between mental health and adolescents, social and governmental agents, can be followed via streaming through INJUVE’s Youtube Channel next Thursday, November 5.

20/10/2020.- The Youth Institute (INJUVE) of the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2020 and the Network for the Promotion of Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing in Adolescents (PROEMA Network) are jointly organizing an online conference on the promotion of health and emotional wellbeing in youth, with a special focus on the impact of the pandemic.

Under the title, ‘Youth, wellbeing and emotional health in the era of the Coronavirus: Experiences and tools to emotionally manage the impact of the pandemic’, the objectives of the conference are to present the current situation of adolescent mental health in the context of COVID-19 and to make visible the importance of investing resources in the prevention, detection and early intervention of emotional problems in young people.

The conference will be open to all interested users and can be followed via streaming through INJUVE’s Youtube Channel. The day’s program, which will run from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm, includes the participation of a wide range of professionals who are experts in the relationship between mental health and adolescents. Likewise, young people and their families will be encouraged to talk about their experiences, which will be complemented by the presentation of the results obtained in two monographs on the psychological impact of the coronavirus on children and adolescents, as well as the presentation of lines to be followed in the future, and the holding of three round tables.

The opening ceremony will be attended by María Teresa Pérez as Director of INJUVE; Amparo Botejara as spokesperson for Health of the Grupo Unidas Podemos and promoter of the Mental Health Bill; Andrés Suárez as Technical Advisor of the General Sub-Directorate for Quality and Innovation of the General Directorate for Public Health, Quality and Innovation; and Luis Joaquín García, Professor of Psychology at the University of Jaén and head of the PROEMA Network.

At the beginning of the day, data and experiences on the psychological impact of COVID-19 in children and adolescents will be provided, as well as the current panorama, resources and proposals to be followed in the field of health promotion and emotional wellbeing in adolescents. First, monographs on the subject will be presented by their main coordinators, the researcher of the Miguel Hernández University, Mireia Orgilés, and the researcher of the University of Jaén and member of the PROEMA Network, Lourdes Espinosa.

The first of the round tables will focus on confinement and its impact on the health and emotional wellbeing of young people. Josefa Canals, Professor of Psychology at the Rovira i Virgili University and member of the PROEMA Network, José Antonio Piqueras, professor at the Miguel Hernández University and member of the PROEMA Network, and Enrique Vargas, president of the Spanish Association of Mutual Help against Social Phobia and Anxiety Disorders (AMTAES).

The second one will deal with strategies and actions to emotionally manage the situation generated by the pandemic. Ana Cobos, president of the Confederation of Organizations of Psychopedagogy and Guidance in Spain (COPOE), and the professors of the University of Jaén and members of the PROEMA Network, José Antonio Muela and Luis Joaquín García will take part in it.

As for the third round table, focused on listening to the voices of young people, patients and interest groups, it will be coordinated by Sergio Silvero, head of the Youth Group of the State Federation of Lesbians, Gays, Trans and Bisexuals (FELGTB), and will serve as a loudspeaker for the experiences of different young people and their families. In the last part of the day, there will be a round of questions and contributions for users who participate in it, which will serve as a conclusion prior to the closing of the event.
