The work of the PROEM Network, referenced in the Report ‘Spain 2050’.

This important document at national level includes several of the proposals promoted by the PROEM Network in its report on the mental health and emotional well-being of young people.

28/06/2021.- The Report ‘Spain 2050’, which brings together the results of the study ‘Foundations and proposals for a Long-Term National Strategy’, includes the work carried out by the PROEM Network on mental health and emotional well-being of young people.

It is a work carried out by a hundred researchers of recognized prestige and from different academic disciplines, coordinated by the National Foresight and Strategy Office of the Presidency of the Government to analyze the future of the country. The ‘Spain 2050’ Report aims to improve understanding of the social, economic and environmental challenges and opportunities of the coming decades, as well as to set priorities, coordinate efforts and guarantee the well-being of citizens.

One of its nine chapters deals with the subject of psychological well-being under the coordination and contributions of Carmelo Vázquez, Professor of Psychology at the Complutense University of Madrid. In it, he specifically echoes three achievable national priority goals: the inclusion of emotional education programs throughout the educational cycle; the improvement of psychological care for mental problems, mainly, but not exclusively, through Primary Care; and the introduction of training programs on early detection of mental health in teachers and health personnel.

“These established goals coincide with several of the needs that we detected from the PROEM Network in the report and roadmap on the current state, needs and recommendations for the improvement of psychological assessment of mental health and emotional well-being of young people in 2018,” says Luis Joaquín García, professor at the University of Jaén (UJA) and main responsible for the Network.

He also emphasizes that the PROEM Network’s own report is included in the references supporting the proposals of the ‘Spain 2050’ Report on two occasions. “It is an endorsement for the work carried out by the team of researchers from national and international universities, to whom I am extremely grateful for their commitment to strengthen the positioning of health and emotional well-being in our society. Along the same lines are the DAREMOS and PROCARE projects, which we are carrying out with the aim of providing free help to adolescents at risk of suffering emotional problems such as anxiety or depression,” said Luis Joaquín García.
