Red interdisciplinar para la PROmoción de la salud y bienestar Emocional en las personas jóvenes

Researchers from the PROCARE initiative evaluate next steps to implement evidence-based early detection and intervention protocol for adolescents at risk or high risk for emotional problems

29/11/2022.- Researchers from the University of Jaén (UJA), Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) and Rovira i Virgili University met telematically to evaluate new measures within the framework of possible agreements with international, national, regional and local entities to carry out PROCARE and thus emotionally support young people at risk or high risk of suffering emotional problems through initiatives to promote health and emotional well-being in young people.

In the first part of the meeting they agreed to review the procedure to carry out the PROCARE detection protocol, taking into account the characteristics of the screening phase, and the evaluation and stratification phase, to assign participants to the additional modules, which cover issues such as bullying and cyberbulling, healthy habits, family communication problems, stress management difficulties or discrimination due to belonging to a minority group, among others.

In the second part of the meeting, they agreed on the consideration of additional contents, such as the approach to eco-anxiety and other aspects, by specific working groups, as well as the elaboration of future lines of work.

Finally, it was reported on the progress achieved through meetings held with different institutions at regional level, specifically with the Ministry of Education and Employment of Extremadura, with the direction of the Pacte Nacional de la Salut Mental in Catalonia, the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs of the Junta de Andalucía, the Directorate General of Childhood, Adolescence and Youth of the Junta de Andalucía and the Diputación Provincial de Jaén.

The meeting was attended by Luis Joaquín García, Lourdes Espinosa, José Antonio Muela, Mª del Mar Díaz, David Jiménez, Pilar Martínez and Jesús Sánchez from the UJA, José Antonio Piqueras from the UMH and Josefa Canals from the URV.

PROCARE is the first transdiagnostic prevention initiative at international level that has demonstrated its efficacy in the intervention of adolescents at risk of developing emotional problems such as anxiety or depression under the framework of selective prevention (PROCARE+), and at high risk under the framework of indicated prevention (PROCARE-I).

It is a project (PID 2019-111138RB-I00/AEI/10.13039/501100011033) funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation. In addition, it has the participation of the University of Miami and the collaboration of an External Advisory Board formed by the Spanish Youth Institute (INJUVE) within the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030, the Spanish Youth Council (CJE), the Youth Group of the Federación Estatal de Lesbianas, Gais, Trans, Bisexuales, Intersexuales y más (FELGTBIq+), the Confederación de Organizaciones de Psicopedagogía y Orientación de España (COPOE) and the Asociación Española de Ayuda Mutua contra Fobia Social y Trastornos de Ansiedad (AMTAES).
