Red interdisciplinar para la PROmoción de la salud y bienestar Emocional en las personas jóvenes

Luis Joaquín García and José Antonio Muela describe the DAREMOS and PROCARE initiatives in the Abecedario Solidario 2022 radio marathon.

Researchers from the University of Jaén participated in this project of Uniradio Jaén, which in this edition was for the benefit of Teléfono de la Esperanza de Jaén.

30/12/2022.- Researchers from the Department of Psychology at the University of Jaén (UJA), Luis Joaquín García and José Antonio Muela, described the initiatives to promote emotional well-being in young people DAREMOS and PROCARE as part of the radio marathon of the Abecedario Solidario 2022 project, organized by UniRadio Jaén.

In this edition, UniRadio Jaén dedicated 12 uninterrupted hours of its programming to raise awareness and sensitize about the work of Teléfono de la Esperanza de Jaén, this year’s beneficiary of the project. In each time slot, the issues of loneliness of the elderly, children, diversity and youth, among others, were discussed.

Luis Joaquín García, professor at UJA and head of DAREMOS and PROCARE, highlighted the importance of prevention to provide young people with emotional resilience strategies. He also described the work carried out through the DAREMOS and PROCARE initiatives, pioneers at international level for demonstrating their effectiveness in the early detection and provision of emotional help to adolescents at risk or at high risk of suffering emotional problems. He participated in the slot dedicated to Support, sponsored by Aespacios, directed by the radio station’s collaborator, Anabel Gámez, and with the collaboration of the social worker Elena Padilla, and the technical architects Ana Belén Balbín and Elena Méndez.

For his part, José Antonio Muela discussed the problem of anxiety and social phobia in adolescents and explained the characteristics of the DAREMOS, PROCARE and DIGITAS projects. He intervened in the slot dedicated to Youth, sponsored by Lacontradejaén and directed by the deputy director of the radio station, Víctor Figueroa. He was joined by the journalist Esperanza Calzado, and the activist against bullying, child abuse and suicide, José Manuel López.

The DAREMOS initiative is a nationwide project involving researchers from different departments of the UJA and the Institute of Biomedical Research of Malaga (IBIMA), in collaboration with Yotta Code, spin off of the UJA.

The PROCARE initiative is a nationwide project involving professionals from the Psychology Department of the UJA, the Rovira i Virgili University, the Miguel Hernández University of Elche and the University of Miami (USA).

The Youth Institute (INJUVE) of the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030, the Spanish Association of Mutual Help against Social Phobia and Anxiety Disorders (AMTAES), the Confederation of Organizations of Psychopedagogy and Guidance of Spain (COPOE), the Youth Group of the Federación Estatal de Lesbianas, Gais, Trans, Bisexuales, Intersexuales y más (FELGTBI+) and the Consejo de la Juventud de España (CJE) make up the External Advisory Board of both projects.
