Red interdisciplinar para la PROmoción de la salud y bienestar Emocional en las personas jóvenes

Luis Joaquín García presents the PROCARE initiative at the kick-off meeting of the Research Network on Chronicity, Primary Care and Health Promotion (RICAPPS), within the SAMSERAP group.

The Professor of Psychology at the University of Jaén (UJA) and main responsible of this project for the promotion of emotional wellbeing in young people attended the kick off meeting held at the headquarters of IBIMA.

1/02/2023.- Luis Joaquín García, Professor of Psychology at the University of Jaén (UJA), presented the PROCARE initiative at the kick-off meeting of the Research Network on Chronicity, Primary Care and Health Promotion (RICAPPS), held last Friday, January 27.

Luis Joaquín García, who has joined RICAPPS through the research group in Mental Health, Services and Primary Care of Malaga (SAMSERAP), was invited to the kick off meeting by Juan Ángel Bellón, researcher in charge of this group integrated in the Institute of Biomedical Research of Malaga (IBIMA).

In this way, Luis Joaquín García presented the results of the PROCARE initiative, which has helped more than 1,500 schoolchildren throughout Spain through the reduction of emotional problems, the improvement of subjective quality of life and the greater regulation of emotions among the young participants, and among their families. “PROCARE is the first transdiagnostic prevention initiative at the international level that has demonstrated its effectiveness in the intervention of adolescents at risk of developing emotional problems such as anxiety or depression under the framework of selective prevention (PROCARE+), and at high risk under the framework of indicated prevention (PROCARE-I)”, explained Luis Joaquín García.

PROCARE ((PID 2019-111138RB-I00/AEI/10.13039/501100011033) is a project funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation, which has counted with the participation of UJA, Rovira i Virgili University, Miguel Hernández University of Elche and the University of Miami (USA). In addition, it has the collaboration of an External Advisory Board formed by the Spanish Youth Institute (INJUVE) attached to the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030, the Spanish Youth Council (CJE), the Youth Group of the State Federation of Lesbians, Gays, Trans, Bisexuals and Transsexuals (Federación Estatal de Lesbianas, Gays, Trans, Bisexuals, Intersexuals and more (FELGTBIq+), the Confederation of Organizations of Psychopedagogy and Guidance of Spain (COPOE) and the Spanish Association of Mutual Help against Social Phobia and Anxiety Disorders (AMTAES).

Together with researchers from Malaga, Granada and Seville, Luis Joaquin Garcia met other SAMSERAP group projects that are part of RICAPPS and during the working day they studied the implementation of different strategies for knowledge transfer and generation of synergies and ways of collaboration between the different projects.

RICAPPS, which is funded by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, aims to promote research in a national network oriented towards health outcomes in primary care, chronicity and health promotion. It has 26 research groups and 9 associated clinical care groups, located in 12 autonomous communities and the participation of specialists in primary care, prevention, public health, epidemiology, mathematics, statistics, economic evaluation, pharmacology, psychology, sociology, anthropology and other specialties.
