The professor at the University of Jaén and head of the PROEMO Network presented the latest news on these projects to Pau Roig Mas, member of the CJE’s Health, Rural Youth and Research Committee.
20/12/2023.- Luis Joaquín García, professor at the University of Jaén (UJA) and head of the Network for the Promotion of Health and EMOtional Well-being of Young People (PROEMO), and Pau Roig Mas, member of the Health, Rural Youth and Research section of the Spanish Youth Council (CJE), held a meeting to share the progress of the initiatives in which they collaborate.
Luis Joaquín García explained to the CJE representative, who recently took up his new position, the progress of interdisciplinary initiatives for the promotion of health and emotional well-being of young people, which are under the umbrella of the PROEMO Network, such as PROCARE, PROADEMO or DAREMOS, in which the CJE is part of its External Advisory Council.
In this way, Luis Joaquín García explained the keys to PROCARE (‘Selective prevention through a transdiagnostic intervention for adolescents at risk of emotional problems’), a pioneering initiative worldwide in the field of prevention and personalized medicine, since it is the first selective prevention program aimed at adolescents between 12 and 18 years of age at risk of suffering emotional problems.
He also emphasized the objectives of the PROADEMO project (‘PROmocionAnDo la salud y el bienestar EMOcional de los adolescentes en el sector educativo, sanitario y la sociedad’), based on the preparation of useful materials and tools for educational, health and youth information personnel, as well as for the adolescents themselves, with the aim of improving the quality of the services offered in the field of adolescent emotional wellbeing and increasing emotional literacy.
The UJA professor then presented the roadmap of the PROEMO Network, a research network (RED2022-134247-T) funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation and the State Research Agency. This roadmap, planned for 2025, aims to detect current deficiencies in the field of child and adolescent mental health, and to provide recommendations for the promotion of the health and emotional well-being of young people. Finally, Luis Joaquín García addressed the impact of other projects such as DAREMOS, focused on the early detection of adolescents at high risk of developing emotional problems such as anxiety or depression.
For his part, Pau Roig Mas pointed out the CJE’s eagerness to “address in a comprehensive manner both the mental and physical health of young people”, as well as “to place rural youth as one of the priorities in its proposals”. In this sense, Pau Roig Mas has invited the PROEMO Network to collaborate with the CJE working group focused on the field of mental health, with the aim of making contributions in this area, and has confirmed its collaborative support in the next phases of the projects PROCARE, PROADEMO and the roadmap, aligned with several of the guidelines advocated by the CJE itself.
The Spanish Youth Council (CJE) is part of the External Advisory Board of several PROEMO Network projects, together with entities such as the Spanish Youth Institute (INJUVE), attached to the Ministry of Children and Youth, the European Youth Information and Counselling Agency (ERYICA), the Princess of Girona Foundation (FPdGi), the Integral Health group of the FELGTBI+, the Confederation of Organizations of Psychopedagogy and Guidance of Spain (COPOE), the Spanish Association of Mutual Help against Social Phobia and Anxiety Disorders (Amtaes), the Andalusian Association of Youth Technicians (AATJ) and the Asturian Association for the attention and care of children (Asaci).
