17/10/2024.- The researchers of the Department of Psychology of the University of Jaén (UJA) David Jiménez and Laura Zafra presented this afternoon the PROCARE Cordoba initiative to representatives of some thirty municipalities in the province of Cordoba.

PROCARE (Selective and indicated prevention through a transdiagnostic intervention for adolescents at risk of emotional problems) is a program that aims to detect emotional problems in the adolescent population between 12 and 18 years of age and contribute to the improvement of their state of health and emotional well-being. Its implementation in Cordoba is funded by the Provincial Council of Cordoba through the Pro Joven Network and is expected to reach a group of 300 young people.

The online briefing was attended by the deputy delegate of Technological Development, Digital Transformation and Youth, Sara Alguacil, the program coordinator of the Department of Youth and Sports, Antonio Cazallo, as well as with the assistance of councilors and councilors of the Youth area and youth technicians from different municipalities in the province.

Both David Jimenez and Laura Zafra explained to the attendees the methodology of work to be carried out in PROCARE Cordoba. In the first phase, adolescents fill out a questionnaire to know their emotional state. Depending on their age, they can do it alone or accompanied by their parents or legal guardians. In the second phase, those at risk of suffering emotional problems are offered an online workshop on emotional strengthening and resilience in the face of present and future adversities, consisting of eight sessions and five additional modules. Finally, the third phase, after the end of the workshop, consists of a series of reminiscence sessions after six months.

In her speech, Sara Alguacil emphasized the special concern of the provincial administration for the problems of mental health and emotional well-being of the adolescent population today”, and stressed ‘the importance of implementing a system of prevention and early detection of problems in this segment’.

The PROCARE Cordoba program is already underway and the questionnaires can be accessed through the tab enabled on the PROEM Network website: https://redproem.es/en/procare-initiative-cordoba-provincial-council/
