Researchers from the University of Jaén present the DIGITAS, PROCARE and PROADEMO initiatives at the I Jiennense Conference on Suicidal Behavior

These projects to promote the health and emotional wellbeing of adolescents were the protagonists of this event organized by the Official College of Psychology of Eastern Andalusia.

12/11/2024.- Researchers from the University of Jaén (UJA) and the PROEMO Network have presented the DIGITAS, PROCARE and PROADEMO initiatives at the I Jiennenses Conference on suicidal behavior, organized by the Official College of Psychology of Eastern Andalusia (COPAO) in the auditorium of the Territorial Delegation of Health and Consumer Affairs of Jaén.

The aim of this informative event was to make visible different initiatives, programs and experiences in the field of suicide prevention, in the territory and within the educational context, to reflect together on the psychological dimension of suicidal behavior respecting its multidimensionality.

Specifically, UJA researchers, Lourdes Espinosa, David Jiménez and Laura Zafra, participated in the technical table of experts in suicidal behavior, moderated by Eva Mª Martínez, coordinator of the Commission of the Psychology of Suicidal Behavior in Jaén, and of which Rosa Mª Mesa, coordinator of the Area of Tutorial Action and Conviction of the Provincial Technical Team for Educational and Vocational Guidance, also took part.

Lourdes Espinosa presented the DIGITAS project, an online knowledge transfer tool. Its main objective is to offer evidence-based resources and tools to help adolescents and contribute to their emotional literacy.

This is a project financed by the State Research Agency (Ministry of Science and Innovation) and the European Union with “NextGenerationEU” funds, which includes podcasts, videos, documentaries, sound fiction, online guides and all kinds of audiovisual resources and content.

Laura Zafra then presented the keys to the PROCARE initiative (Selective Prevention through Transdiagnostic Intervention for Adolescents at Risk of Emotional Problems). This is the first transdiagnostic program of selective and indicated prevention at international level aimed at young people between 12 and 18 years of age at risk of suffering emotional problems.

PROCARE is an R+D+i project PID 2019-111138RB-I00 funded by MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 (Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and the State Research Agency), with the participation of professionals from the Department of Psychology at UJA, Rovira i Virgili University, Miguel Hernández University and the University of Miami (USA).

It is currently being implemented in the province of Cordoba and in the municipality of Marmolejo in Jaén, thanks to the financial support of the Provincial Council of Cordoba, the City Council of Marmolejo and the Provincial Council of Jaén.

Finally, David Jimenez delved into the PROADEMO project (‘PROmocionAnDo la salud y el bienestar EMOcional de los adolescentes en el sector educativo, sanitario y la sociedad’), in which an interdisciplinary team of the UJA has developed a set of practical tools for the emotional support of adolescents, aimed at educational, health and youth professionals, as well as young people themselves.

The PROADEMO materials consist of a three-session emotional training guide for professionals; a 22-chapter practical tools guide complemented by a triage tool to classify the seriousness and urgency of the most frequent incidents they may face in their interaction with young people; and a series of informative videos aimed at adolescents themselves to promote their resilience and increase their emotional literacy.

Of all of them, David Jiménez emphasized the chapter dedicated to self-harm and suicide with different recommendations on how to deal with these delicate situations, and stressed that these materials are free and downloadable through the PROADEMO initiative website.

In the elaboration and edition of this kit, the PROADEMO project has counted with the collaboration and support of an External Advisory Council composed of nine entities: the Spanish Youth Institute (INJUVE), attached to the Ministry of Youth and Children, the Spanish Youth Council (CJE), the European Youth Information and Counselling Agency (ERYICA), the Princess of Girona Foundation (FPdGi), the Integral Health group of the FELGTBI+, the Asociación Española de Ayuda Mutua contra Fobia Social y Trastornos de Ansiedad (AMTAES), the Confederación de Organizaciones de Psicopedagogía y Orientación de España (COPOE), the Asociación Andaluza de Técnicos de la Juventud (AATJ) and the Asociación Asturiana para la atención y el cuidado de la infancia (ASACI).

PROADEMO is a project PDC2022-133401-I00 funded by MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 (Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, the State Research Agency and the European Union through the “Next Generation EU” funds within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan).
