PROCARE - JAÉN INITIATIVE
The University of Jaén (UJA) and the PROEMO Network, in collaboration with the Provincial Council of Jaén, are launching an initiative to help adolescents between 12 and 18 years of age in the province of Jaén.
After completing a survey, young people and their families will be able to know the emotional state of their children. In addition, PROCARE is intended to help the young population to face emotional difficulties (studies, health habits, communication in the family, rejection, etc.), with the aim of strengthening them emotionally and developing their resilience in the face of life’s adversities. The ultimate goal is to contribute to improving the health and emotional well-being of young people who are interested.
In summary, the implementation of the PROCARE initiative aims to assess and provide psychological strategies to strengthen emotionally the adolescents involved.
The implementation of PROCARE in the province of Jaén has been promoted by the president of the Provincial Council of Jaén, Francisco Reyes, its first vice-president, Francisca Medina, and the Deputy for Equality and Youth, Mª Dolores Ruiz, thanks to funding from the Provincial Council of Jaén itself, within the framework of its Jaenícolas brand. In addition, it has as promoter the professor of the University of Jaén (UJA) Luis Joaquín García, the Research Group of Evaluation and Psychological Treatment HUM-836, the Research Structure EI_HUM18_2023 of the UJA and the network of excellence PROEMO.
STAGES OF THE INITIATIVE
STAGE 1
It is developed in two possible ways:
- The adolescent (between 12 and 18 years old) and his/her family will complete a questionnaire/survey on emotional and behavioral aspects electronically in two parts: first, the parents (or at least one parent) fill out some sections, and then the child fills out other sections: Link for parents and teenagers between 12 and 15 years old or 16 and 18 years old who wish to do it. Information about the adolescent’s emotional state will be sent to the e-mail address provided by the family.
- If the teenager is 16, 17 or 18 years old and wishes to complete only the sections of the survey that apply to him/her (without the participation of parents), he/she can use the Link for teenagers between 16 and 18 years old. In this case, information about the adolescent’s emotional state will be sent to the e-mail address provided by the adolescent.
The objective is, on the one hand, to help determine whether the adolescent is emotionally healthy, at risk or at high risk of suffering emotional difficulties, or developing an emotional problem.
All participants will receive information about their health and emotional well-being free of charge.
STAGE 2
Young people at risk will be offered a workshop on emotional strengthening and resilience in the face of present and future adversities. In this way, they will learn to cope with risk situations and to enhance their communication skills. They will also receive one or more additional modules adapted to help them with situations of concern such as: stress management (exams, eco-anxiety), communication difficulties with the family, rejection/discrimination, or healthy lifestyle habits (nutrition, sleep, physical exercise, use of screens/new technologies).
STAGE 3
After the end of the workshop, they will benefit from debriefing sessions to consolidate the benefits acquired and to evaluate the participants’ progress on an emotional level.
