INITIATIVE PROCARE
The University of Jaén, in collaboration with the Universitat Rovira i Virgili and the Miguel Hernández University, carries out a screening to detect emotional problems in students from 12 to 18 years old attending public or subsidized schools in the Balearic Islands, with the aim of contributing to improve the health and emotional well-being of those who are interested.
The implementation of the PROCARE initiative aims to evaluate and provide psychological strategies to emotionally strengthen adolescents in need.
The implementation of PROCARE in the Balearic Islands took place thanks to the collaboration agreement signed by the Rector of the University of Jaén, Juan Gómez, and the Regional Minister of Education and Professional Training, Martí X. March.
The agreement has been promoted by Amanda Fernández, General Director of Early Childhood, Innovation and Educational Community, Aina Amengual, Director of l’Institut per a la Convivència i l’èxit escolar, and Catherine Adrover, technician of said institute, thanks to the financing of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training through the European Social Fund within the Territorial Cooperation Program of Mental Health. In addition, it is promoted by the UJA professor, Luis Joaquín García, with the support of the Psychology Office, the Psychological Evaluation and Treatment Research Group HUM-836, the Research Structure EI_HUM18_2023 of the UJA and the PROEM Network.
STAGES OF THE INITIATIVE
STAGE 1
The adolescent (between 12 and 18 years of age) and his or her family completed a questionnaire on emotional and behavioral aspects telematically.
The objective is to identify the risk or high risk of suffering from an emotional problem, such as anxiety or depression in the adolescent. All participants will receive information on the outcome of emotional health and well-being free of charge.
STAGE 2
Young people can benefit from a workshop on emotional strengthening and resilience in the face of present and future adversities. They learn to cope with risky situations and enhance their communication skills. They also receive an additional tailored module on situations that make them feel vulnerable.
STAGE 3
Both six months and one year after the end of the workshop, reminder sessions can be held to consolidate the benefits acquired and to evaluate the progress of the participating students on an emotional level.
