The PROEM Network and the Aragonese Youth Institute address the implementation of programs to promote health and emotional wellbeing for young people in Aragon

Likewise, researchers Luis Joaquín García and Lourdes Espinosa explained the keys to the PROCARE and DAREMOS initiatives to Pablo Puente, psychologist associated with the Asturian Health Service.

3/11/2021.- Luis Joaquín García, as the main responsible of the Interdisciplinary Research Network for the Promotion of Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing in Young People (PROEM), and representatives of the Aragonese Youth Institute met recently to analyze the possible implementation of programs to promote health and emotional wellbeing in young people in the Aragonese community.

The meeting took place within the framework of the seminar ‘Addressing the health and emotional well-being of young people in the post-pandemic era’, organized as part of the Cabueñes International Youth Meetings held in Gijón.

“Specifically, the Aragonese Youth Institute showed me their special interest in bringing this type of initiative to the population of the rural areas of Zaragoza, Teruel and Huesca, which have historically been ignored by mental health policies,” says Luis Joaquín García, who explained the impact of the pandemic and the specific actions implemented to provide emotional support to young people at this time, such as PROCARE and DAREMOS.

Likewise, both parties advocated the need to include mental health care for young people in rural areas as one of the priorities to be taken into account for inclusion in roadmaps such as the Youth Strategy 2021 – 2030, which is being developed by the Youth Institute (INJUVE), as an entity attached to the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030.

Likewise, during the International Youth Meetings in Cabueñes, PROEM Network members Luis Joaquín García and Lourdes Espinosa, were in contact with Pablo Puente, psychologist associated with the Asturian Health Service. Together with him, they analyzed the problems of mental health and emotional well-being of adolescents in Asturias.

“Pablo Puente focused on the most common cases that mental health professionals in the Asturian community encounter on a daily basis. Based on the data obtained by our research in the DAREMOS and PROCARE projects, we present some of the conclusions obtained from the schoolchildren who participated from schools and educational centers in Asturias”, concludes Luis Joaquín García.
