Manuel Vivas explains the keys of the PROCARE+ initiative to students and faculty of the Psychology Degree of the University of Cyprus.

This seminar is part of the doctoral stay that the researcher of the Department of Psychology of the University of Jaén (UJA) is carrying out in the Cypriot institution, in the framework of his research work in the PROCARE and LevelUP projects.

3/03/2023.- Manuel Vivas, researcher at the Department of Psychology of the University of Jaén (UJA) associated with the PROCARE project, presented on February 16, 2023 the keys to the PROCARE+ initiative to students and faculty of the Degree of Psychology at the University of Cyprus (UCY).

This seminar, framed within the Erasmus+ PhD stay that the UJA researcher is carrying out in the framework of the PROCARE project in Cyprus between December 2022 and March 2023, was attended by 50 UCY students. “In their curriculum, the UCY student body is currently exploring the different types of psychological prevention treatments. In this context, I delved into selective prevention treatments through the work we are carrying out PROCARE+,” says Manuel Vivas.

PROCARE+ is the first transdiagnostic selective prevention initiative that has demonstrated its efficacy in adolescents at risk of developing emotional problems. In this regard, Manuel Vivas addressed the results obtained through the implementation of PROCARE+, which has managed to reduce emotional distress and the risk of developing a future emotional problem in more than 1,500 schoolchildren in Spain, improving their subjective quality of life, resilience and ability to manage intense emotions.

In his presentation, Manuel Vivas detailed the work carried out through online or face-to-face group sessions, which aim to teach adolescents emotional management tools, as well as personalized sessions to influence risk factors such as bullying, minority discrimination, inadequate healthy lifestyle habits, poor child-parent communication or stressful situations.

PROCARE (PID 2019-111138RB-I00/AEI/10.13039/501100011033) is a project funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation, which has counted with the participation of UJA, Rovira i Virgili University, Miguel Hernández University and the University of Miami (USA). It also has the collaboration of an External Advisory Board formed by the Spanish Youth Institute (INJUVE) attached to the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030, the Spanish Youth Council (CJE), the Youth Group of the State Federation of Lesbians, Gays, Trans, Bisexuals and Transsexuals (Federación Estatal de Lesbianas, Gays, Trans, Bisexuals, Intersexuals and more (FELGTBIq+), the Confederation of Organizations of Psychopedagogy and Guidance of Spain (COPOE) and the Spanish Association of Mutual Help against Social Phobia and Anxiety Disorders (AMTAES).
