01/11/2024.– The Spanish Association for Mutual Aid against Social Phobia and Anxiety Disorders (AMTAES) participates in the second phase of the preparation of the materials of the project ‘PROMOTING the health and EMOtional well-being of adolescents in the sector educational, health and society’ (PROADEMO) and the roadmap of the Network for the Promotion of the EMOtional health and well-being of adolescents (PROEMO).

The researcher from the University of Jaén (UJA), Manuel Vivas, and the president of AMTAES, Enrique Vargas, met online to share the contributions of this association as a member of the External Advisory Council of these two projects, which leads the UJA.

Firstly, Enrique Vargas proposed a change of model in the terminology, to avoid the use of stigmatizing vocabulary in the design and development of the digital training package and the set of practical tools, aimed at school personnel, health personnel and healthcare workers. youth, as well as for the preparation of the emotional help kit for adolescents. Along the same lines, he valued the digital format and good practice guides as the most recommended for training actions.

PROADEMO (PDC2022-133401-I00/AEI/10.13039/501100011033) has funding from the Ministry of Science and Innovation, the State Research Agency and the European Union, through the “Next Generation EU” funds within the Recovery Plan, Transformation and Resilience. PROADEMO’s objective is to improve the skills of professionals and young people themselves to contribute to provide quality mental health services to adolescents at risk of developing emotional problems.

Finally, Enrique Vargas stressed the need for an open dialogue between teachers and students as one of the shortcomings detected by AMTAES regarding the current situation of the health and emotional well-being of young people. At the same time, as one of the priorities to be taken into account in the PROEMO Network roadmap, he advocated involving families and young people themselves in addressing mental health, to promote early detection and to guide them where to go. Both these and the previous contributions in the PROADEMO materials will be taken into account by the work team in the document in progress of both projects.
