WHAT IS PROCARE?
PROCARE (Selective Prevention through Transdiagnostic Intervention for Adolescents at Risk of Emotional Problems) is the first international transdiagnostic selective prevention initiative that has demonstrated its efficacy in the intervention of adolescents at risk (PROCARE+) and at high risk (PROCARE-i) of developing emotional problems such as anxiety or depression.
It is a project led by the University of Jaén, in collaboration with the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, the University Miguel Hernández and the University of Miami, with the support and advice of a broad national and international External Advisory Board (see TEAM section).
Its objective is to evaluate and provide psychological strategies to emotionally strengthen our adolescents between the ages of 12 and 18, especially vulnerable population.
The results obtained through its implementation are related to a reduction in emotional distress, a decrease in the risk of developing a future emotional problem, and an increase in quality of life, resilience, emotional strength and the ability to manage intense emotions.
Its implementation in 2021 managed to help more than 1,500 adolescents throughout Spain free of charge through a screening, assessment and intervention protocol based on evidence and adapted to the needs of young people.

STAGES OF THE INITIATIVE
STAGE 1
Both the family and the adolescent between the ages of 12 and 18 complete an online survey on emotional and behavioral aspects. If 16 or older, parental consent is not required, so only the young person’s consent is needed.
STAGE 2
Parents and adolescents are informed about the results. In this way, parents can find out for free how their children are doing emotionally. Young people can also learn how they are feeling and living through these difficult times. If the survey answers indicate that the teenager or young person may be having a hard time, they can benefit from a free online emotional support group workshop.
STAGE 3
Six months after the workshop, their progress is recorded and then the adolescents receive a reminder session to consolidate their achievements. Finally, there is a 12-month follow-up to evaluate the emotional state of the young people thanks to information from both themselves and their families.
